While speaking on the variations of metering in lyrics of Rabindranath’s songs Buddhadev Basu has commented in his column ‘Rabindranather Gaan’ published in Rabindra-sankhya of ‘Kobita’ in Asharh, 1348 –
… Rabindranath had once commented, I had heard somewhere, that any form of metering from the Sanskrit may be applied in Bengali, except some (like hraswa-deergha. Andrews was present and he had recited two lines from the Greek poems and asked whether this metering can be applied. Rabindranath once more listened it carefully, thought for a while and then as if readily echoed with a complementary song ‘Dukkhero Baroshay Chokkhero Jalo Jei Naamlo …’.
